So as you all probably know, Detroit went bankrupt over the summer. But before that, there were some elections and one of the proposals was to publicly fund the DIA(Detroit Institute of Arts, an art museum). Although I am going into computer animation, and I can see the DIA from campus, I did not vote for this proposal. As a conservative, it would be completely hypocritical for me to vote for this. An art museum should not be the responsibility of the taxpayer, especially since 95% of the people paying for it probably won’t attend. I’d be very surprised if anyone else in my school agreed with me. Unfortunately, the proposal passed anyway and months later, Detroit is bankrupt. Recently, they’ve been considering selling the artwork and ending the DIA. You would think by now people start to learn about wasteful government spending, but many of Detroit’s residents, and a number of students from my school formed a protest in order to save the DIA.
I don’t get it.
Yeah, I’ve been to the DIA, and it’s a nice place and all. They have a renascence painting I like by Gentileschi, after Judith has cut off the head of Holofernes. It’s pretty cool. But people are acting like these painting will be burned or something. They’re not, they’re being sold, probably to another nice art museum.
Art museums aren’t free, and Detroit can’t afford this.
On top of that, the government has no business funding an art museum.
I’ve always though the Death tax is such bullshit. It taxes money that has already gone through an income tax, and will be taxed again because of sales tax.
Not to mention it’s taxing a dead person…a little messed up if you ask me.
I’m going into computer animation, so I’ve been learning to use software like Maya for animating and character rigging. I’ve also done a little environment work in a game art class.
All of the classes for my major have been really cool so far, but we all have to take these classes called ‘liberal arts’. These classes are usually pretty irrelevant and boring, but one that I am currently taking really takes the cake. It really brings out the liberal in a liberal arts class….
It’s called ‘consciousness, creativity, and identity’. (You’d think I would have read the description a little more carefully, but after having a bunch of scheduling problems, I just went with it.) Within the first 10 minutes on the first day of class, the teacher admits to being a ‘left wing liberal activist’. Although most of my teachers seem pretty liberal, they usually don’t admit that so quickly. And I wouldn’t mind if she wasn’t trying to brainwash the entire class with her collectivism. Most of the other students seem to take it too.
Yesterday, she said, “I want you to come out of this class knowing less than you currently do.” And than tried to convince us that science and intelligence is unimportant, and told us about some study where they removed parts of a rats brain and it could still function. I actually found this very amusing, and quite fitting for liberalism…
Anyway, I’d drop the class but I need the credit and it’s actually really easy if I can bear to sit through it. And listening to Rush Limbaugh before class and during break usually helps.
is this the new definition of beauty
I think one of the Capitol Citizens lost their dog.\
thats where my dog went thanks perfectlyimperfectme8
this world confuses me
Am I the only one who has poodles (love dogs but have allergies) and doesn’t do stupid haircuts, I just let their hair grow and get them groomed every couple weeks. My dog we got with just a nub for a tail, so he looks like a little bear cub.
I work for a groomer, washing and drying dogs. Although there are tons of poodles, not a single one get’s their dogs hair cut in the traditional continental clip. Everyone just want’s puppy cuts.
Kind of sad actually. Although that peacock thing is just plain weird.
Can I get an amen?
People don’t seem to get this concept.
At $9 and hour I could hire 4 people, at the current minimum wage in my state I could hire 5 for the same amount.
THEORETICALLY employees have more to spend (except that Obama raised payroll taxes, yay!) but that only works for employees who have jobs. Unemployment still goes up and there is one person out of every 5 that has NO job and is collecting welfare and unemployment and can’t spend more money than before.
I’m not an expert on economics, but I always found it one of the more interesting topics in high school. I even wrote an essay once about why I was against minimum wage.
If the government forces business to pay their employees at a higher price, they have to find another way to make up the cost. They might end up with less employees, or they might have to charge more for their products. Or both. Not only does unemployment go up, but the economy takes a hit.
Raising the minimum wage would only damage the economy further.
